About Ol Tukai Lodge

Ol Tukai Lodge is a lodge in the heart of Amboseli National Park, in Kenya. You will also find it listed as Ol Tukai Lodge Amboseli. It has a restaurant, two bars, a lounge, an outdoor pool, a spa and a fitness center. The front desk is open around the clock, with a tour desk and currency exchange. Parking is free, and so is the Wi-Fi, in the public areas.

Location

The lodge stands in the heart of Amboseli National Park. Iremito Gate is 8 km away as the crow flies, and Amboseli Airstrip 4.5 km. A shuttle runs between the lodge and the airstrip for a fee.

Every morning, AirKenya and Safarilink connect Nairobi's Wilson Airport to the airstrip, on a 40-minute direct flight. By road, allow four hours from Nairobi, via Emali and Iremito Gate. The park gates close at 6 p.m., and the lodge cannot be reached from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Rooms

The rooms look out on Kilimanjaro or the swamps. They have a terrace, from which you sometimes see elephants walk past. All have a fan and a mosquito net.

The private bathroom has a shower, a hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers. You also get a kettle, a desk and a wardrobe. The lodge has family rooms. Some rooms are wheelchair accessible. Extra beds are free on request.

Dining

Breakfast offers continental, vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free choices. The restaurant opens onto a veranda, in the garden. The buffet has dishes for children, and the restaurant serves meals for special diets on request.

Two bars serve drinks and snacks. For full days on safari, the lodge prepares packed lunches.

Leisure

The outdoor pool is open all year, with sun loungers and umbrellas. The spa offers massages and body treatments at extra cost, and the lodge has a fitness center. It also has a beauty salon for hair, manicures and pedicures.

The lodge offers a visit to a nearby Maasai village, at extra cost. For children, it has a playground and board games.

In the heart of the park, you are on the tracks the moment you leave the lodge. The lodge offers safari vehicles with a driver at extra cost, and you can also drive your own 4x4. Observation Hill is the only place in the park where you get out of the vehicle.

Amboseli's elephants, tracked one by one since 1972, spend the hot hours in the swamps with buffaloes and hippos. Kilimanjaro comes clear at dawn, then disappears into the clouds. You can also go birdwatching: more than 400 species have been recorded in the park. Flamingos land on Lake Amboseli when the rains fill it.
